This isn’t a “friends only” journal, but it’s private, at least in that I don’t give it to anyone I know personally. I post in it the way I would use a pencil to write in a physical journal, and though I wouldn’t hide it under my bed, I wouldn’t advertise it. I would be delighted if someone I didn’t know added me to friends, and I would add them back.
